ZURICH (Reuters) – Switzerland has frozen the monetary property of the president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, following the violent aftermath of the elections within the east European nation.
Lukashenko and son Viktor are amongst 15 individuals banned from coming into or travelling by way of Switzerland, the federal government mentioned.
The people are alleged to be answerable for using violence and arbitrary arrests, it mentioned.
“Switzerland is deeply involved by the continued tensions and is looking for dialogue between the Belarus authorities and civil society,” the federal government mentioned.
It demanded the discharge of people that have been arbitrarily detained and the investigation of allegations of torture and ill-treatment by safety forces.
